John was born March 14, 1959 and married his wife Jan on April 4, 1987.  He and his wife have four children, three daughters and one son.  John served his country in the military for 13 ½ years.  He was in the US Navy for 6 years and then spent another 7 ½ years in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard.  John joined the Optimist Club of Boyertown in January 2007 and has been a football coach in the Optimist program since joining.  He also enjoys helping our other programs and has been a regular scorekeeper at Biddy Basketball games.  John has also coached soccer at the U6 and U7 level at Washington Elementary.

Audrey Nettles - First Vice President

Audrey has been a member of the Optimist Club of Boyertown since 2005 when she spearheaded the introduction of the Girls Lacrosse Program.  This program has grown from approximately 65 girls to more than double that size since its first year.  In 2008, Audrey was the driving force behind the beginning of a Field Hockey Program as yet another option for the development of teamwork and healthy living was provided for the youth of Boyertown.  Audrey also serves as an official in the Tri-County Youth Lacrosse league and was instrumental in organizing this league.  As you might expect, Audrey has a strong desire to see the lacrosse program in the Boyertown School District continue to grow.  She frequently assists scorekeeping at Biddy Basketball games.  She resides in Gilbertsville with her husband, Marc.

Bruce "Buck" Eardley, Second Vice President

Buck has been a member of the Boyertown optimist Club since 2008.  He is active in the Football and Boys lacrosse programs.  He also works in helping to organize the club's annual Christmas Tree sale and Golf outing.  Buck resides in Boyertown.

Bob joined the Club in 2003 after his daughter participated in the Tri-Star basketball Skills competition.  As a high school and college student in West Virginia, he had always been involved with service organizations but had not found an outlet as an adult and parent.  The Boyertown Optimist Club afforded the opportunity to give back to his new community through involvement with programs for the development of Boyertown youth.  Since joining the club, Bob sponsored expansion of the club's programs with the introduction of the boys' Lacrosse program in 2004, has coached in the basketball program, and generally helps behind the scenes in other programs.  He became a Board member in 2004 and in 2005 began preparing the weekly OpTalk membership newsletter.  Bob resides in Gilbertsville with his wife Arlene and children, Megan and Christopher. 

David Levengood, Treasurer

For over 25 year Dave Levengood has been attending weekly Boyertown Optimists Club meetings. In fact, he has had perfect attendance at meetings for all 25 plus years.

Joining the club in 1980, Dave became quite active within the organization right away. He was elected to serve as the Club’s president in 1984. In 1986 he was awarded the Club’s most prestigious award, the Optimist of Year, for his continuous dedication and service to the Boyertown community. In 1995 the Club nominated Dave to receive the Optimist International’s President’s Golden Circle award. This award was bestowed upon him in grateful recognition of his outstanding and personal participation in the activities of the Optimist Club of Boyertown. In 2000 he was again rewarded for his dedication to the Club. The Club honored Dave with their Board of Directors award because by that time Dave had served 17 years as the Club’s treasurer.

As well as serving as the Club’s president and most notably as the Club’s treasurer, Dave was the football program’s co-chair from 1981 through 1984. He is a former Piggy Bowl, Bike Safety, and Program chairperson. He also coached in the Club’s girls softball program for five years. Currently Dave serves as the Club’s treasure and budget chair.

Dave is employed by The Pottstown Mercury and is married to Joana who is the Controller for S&W Racing.

Dave credits his children’s involvement in the Club’s program as to his reasoning for joining the organization 25 years ago. Jennifer is a former participant in the Club’s cheerleading and softball programs. Scott is a former Optimist football player and a current coach. Kristi is a former participant in the Club’s cheering, softball, and basketball programs. Andrew is a former participant in the Club’s football, basketball, and lacrosse programs. Abigail is a former participant in the Club’s cheerleading, basketball, and lacrosse programs. You can always count on Dave’s children to volunteer their time at many of the Club’s activities and programs.

Lastly, Dave would like everyone to know how proud he is of his three grandchildren, Morgan, Hailey, and Scott, Jr.

Marc Nettles – Past President

Marc began coaching Biddy Basketball when his youngest daughter was in fifth grade.  He continued coaching for the Organization and in 1999 joined the Club as a full member.  He coached a total of 8 years in the biddy program and now is the Chairman of the Biddy Basketball program.  Marc stopped coaching biddy at the end of the 2006-2007 season and is now the girls JV basketball coach at Junior High East.  Marc has served on the Boyertown Area YMCA board of Directors for 9 years, serving as both the Treasurer for several years as well as the Vice-Chairman of the board.  Marc has always had a desire to enhance the lives of the youth in the Boyertown community and feels as though he can do that as a member of both organizations.

Marc, his wife Audrey and their children currently reside in Gilbertsville. 

Tom Lees – Board Member

Tom has been a member of the Boyertown Optimist Club since 2001.  He is a former Club President and Optimist of the Year.  He has been a football coach and remains active behind the scenes with the football program.  Tom can be regularly found in the Winter keeping score for the Biddy Basketball games.  He resides in Barto.

Phil Haddad – Board Member

Phil has been coaching Biddy Basketball since February of 1991, and joined the club three years later. He has served on the board of directors on various occasions. Phil is still coaching Biddy Basketball, and serves on the basketball committee, football committee along with being chairman for the Piggy bowl and the annual Tri-Star shooting, dribbling and passing competition.  He also is found at the football games in the press box announcing the games. Phil was named the Optimist of the Year in October of 1999 for his dedication to the youth of the community.

Phil resides in Boyertown and owns a carwash, manages another along with working for the Boyertown School District and a free lance sports reporter for the Berks-Mont Newspaper (Boyertown Times).

Phil would like to thank the club for giving him the opportunity to coach in the Biddy Basketball program and for all the hard work all the men and women of the club do for the community.

Karri is a former member and Past President of the Pottstown Optimist Club.  In 2011 she transferred her membership to the Optimist Club of Boyertown.  She resides in Pottstown.

Shawn O'Conner - Board Member

Shawn has been a member of the Optimist Club of Boyertown since 2008.  He is active within the Football, Basketball, and Lacrosse programs.  He has also assumed a leadership role in the development of our fields.  Since joining the club Shawn has consitently demonstrated a willingness to help and a positive attitude.  he resides in Gilbertsville.
